Dear Friends, It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 16th Annual Casino Royale. As you know, the Casino Royale is a fundraiser benefiting the 100 Black Men of DeKalb’s Leadership Academy Educational Program. The Academy consists of African American students who are focused upon improving their leadership skills. Admittance into the program is rigorous; however, once admitted, students will begin an empowering transformation. The participants are energetic, determined, and hard working. I consider myself lucky to interact with these future leaders.
I recently interviewed a young man for admittance into the Leadership Academy. Upon asking him why he wishes to be a part of our organization, he responded with an answer that nearly floored me. He explained that it was time for a change. He wants to prove to America that he is not just an African American boy who will end up in prison or dead. He wants to show America that he can and will go on to be a contributing member of our society. If a thirteen year old boy can have such a clear understanding of the value of his life, the future is bright. It is time for all of our young people to understand that their lives hold significant value.

Ferdinand Foch, the French Commander of Allied Forces in World War I, is said to have written that ìthe will to conquer is the first condition of victory.î Therefore, tonight we are going to celebrate, for we are sure to have a victory before long. The ìwill to conquerî is rapidly growing within the hearts of our children. We must secure the foundation upon which they will be able to prepare for the challenges of the future. Accordingly, I thank each of you and ask that you continue to assist the 100ís efforts to help our children to become our future leaders.

Sincerely,
Bernard Taylor, Esq.
Chairman of the Board President

  MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the DeKalb County Chapter 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is to improve the quality of life in our communities and enhance education and economic opportunities for all African-Americans.

  HISTORY

The DeKalb County Chapter 100 Black Men of America, Inc. was formed in 1992 with 14 businessmen from DeKalb County. The men wanted an organization in their community where they could devote their time and resources.

The Leadership Academy, the flagship community program, was conceptualized in 1991 to target young African American boys who are the target group in the community and at risk. The Chapter Board of Directors empowered the President-Elect to proceed in establishing a leadership program through the DeKalb Public School System. Working with the Chapterís Education Committee and the DeKalb School System these men began the program in three schools: Snapfinger, Wadsworth and Knollwood Elementary Schools.
