Dr. Romeo Stockett has retired as the Acting Director for the State Office of Vital Records, and the Deputy Registrar for the State of Georgia. He is a Health Information Technology Consultant and also an Adjunct Professor for Morehouse School of Medicine, Public Health Masters program. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, Georgia and the director of the Chapterís Youth Leadership Academy.
Dr. Stockett is a native of Washington D.C., but now calls Stone Mountain, Georgia home. His athletic passions are tennis and racquetball, and he has used both as vehicles for working with students desiring to pursue these sports and helping those with behavior problems. He has mentored young people and professionals for over 50 years, always taking the opportunity to give back for so much that was given to him by others.
Dr. Stockett has a long and distinguished professional career starting with entering the United States Air Force at the age of 17 and serving 30 years, rising from the enlisted ranks through the officer corps to the grade of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring. During that time he also completed his education endeavors from his GED to his PhD. Romeo proudly shares his journey with young people when encouraging them to never give up on ìtheir dreams.î
Dr. Stockett continues to work with young professionals, many of whom have been his students at Morehouse School of Medicine, Masters in Public Health Program, where he was awarded the ìOutstanding Professor of the Yearî for 2008 by his students. Dr. Stockett attained his PhD in Health Administration and Management and teaches and works in the area of health care Informatics.
Dr. Stockett is active in many community and youth personal development efforts including The 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, Sagal Radio refugee education program, high school tennis coach, personal development coach, author, DeKalb School System Health Occupation program, and teaching in the volunteer effort to save Morris Brown College.
Dr. Stockett is married to Rochelle Pate Stockett and between them they have 7 childrenó5 his and 2 hers, all of whom are college graduates and professionals. Romeo spends much of his time with photography, the 100 Black Men Leadership Academy, and working with his wife on their soon to publish series on Mentoring and Well-Being.
Dr. Stockett reflects on his selection as ìThe Mentor of the Yearî for the 100 Black Men of America, ìThis award recognizes me as a mere representative of the outstanding work of my ëBand of Brothers,í the 100 Black Men of America. They are all outstanding mentors, giving of their time and talents to enhance the lives of our youth.î
